How to Build an Affiliate Marketing Funnel in WordPress

From offer selection to a live, tracked funnel , click by click.

You can build a working affiliate marketing funnel in WordPress in one afternoon if you pick one offer, one lead magnet, and one traffic source before you open the wizard.

This guide walks click by click through the same example we use across the affiliate cluster: bridge headline "Stop guessing which email tool fits your WordPress site," Email Tool Pick Checklist lead magnet, ConvertKit affiliate offer.

By the end you will have a live page at something like yoursite.com/email-tool-checklist, a thank-you message on the same URL, automated emails, and a tracked affiliate link in email 3 , plus a testing checklist so you do not share a broken path.

Affiliate funnel build path

Affiliate funnel build path: Pick offer → Landing page → Opt-in → Thank-you → 3 emails → Affiliate link → Test.

What you will build

Every step below builds the same funnel. Copy text into your wizard, or swap in your own free gift and affiliate URL.

  • Page headline: Stop guessing which email tool fits your WordPress site
  • Sub-headline: Free one-page checklist , pick the right tool in ten minutes
  • Form field: email address only
  • Button text: Send me the checklist
  • Thank-you headline: You are in
  • Thank-you message: Check your inbox , your Email Tool Pick Checklist is on the way
  • Offer URL for launch: your ConvertKit affiliate trial link (required by the plugin; visitors do not go there immediately)
  • Follow-up emails: 3 messages on day 0, day 2, and day 5
  • Page link to share: yoursite.com/email-tool-checklist

That structure fits cold traffic from Pinterest or search.

Warm traffic from your existing list might skip the lead magnet and use a bridge page with a direct affiliate button instead , but the checklist path is the safest first build because it captures emails you can nurture even when nobody clicks on day zero.

Every field above maps to a screen in the BlitzFunnel wizard. Copy the text verbatim on your first pass, then swap in your niche, PDF, and partner link once you understand how the pieces connect.

Before you start

Have one affiliate offer approved and your link ready. Save your ConvertKit partner URL and read promotional rules before writing copy.

You need WordPress admin access, a PDF or Google Doc for the checklist, and ten minutes to test the full path yourself.

Pick one traffic source , a blog post, Pinterest, or an email to your list , so you know who the headline must speak to.

Before you launch, open BlitzFunnel → Settings → Email delivery and send a test message. If email 1 never arrives, visitors think your funnel is broken even when the page looks fine.

Step 1: Choose your funnel shape

Match structure to traffic temperature. Warm traffic , your email list, people who watched a full review , can go bridge-only with a direct affiliate button. Cold traffic from search or ads needs opt-in and follow-up mail.

Readers arrive mostly cold from Google. Lead capture plus three emails fits that traffic. If you already have a loyal audience, skip to a bridge page with one CTA and add email later.

Traffic temperatureRecommended shape
ColdLanding page, opt-in, 3–5 emails, then offer link
WarmBridge page with direct affiliate CTA
Hot (retargeting or list)Short bridge or direct link with bonus code

Step 2: Install a WordPress funnel tool

You can combine a page builder, form plugin, and email service, or use one funnel plugin. We use BlitzFunnel here because it keeps page, form, thank-you, emails, and offer URL in one five-step wizard.

In WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New, search BlitzFunnel, install, and activate. Open BlitzFunnel → Funnels → Add new and choose Walk me through it for the guided setup.

We built this on a fresh WordPress 6.x install with BlitzFunnel active. From blank install to live funnel took one afternoon; writing the three emails took longer than the wizard clicks.

Step 3: Create the landing page (wizard step 1–2)

Wizard step 1 of 5: choose a niche close to your topic , General / not sure works when email tools cross several categories. Under What type of page, select Email capture page. Click Next.

Wizard step 2 of 5 , Design and page: paste headline and sub-headline into the fields on the left. Watch the live preview on the right. Ignore timer, countdown, and hero image for now.

Our headline: Stop guessing which email tool fits your WordPress site. Sub-headline: Free one-page checklist , pick the right tool in ten minutes. Keep the preview to one clear offer.

If it looks crowded, delete text until only the checklist promise remains.

Button labels like Submit or Click here underperform. Say what the visitor gets: Send me the checklist or Get the free checklist.

Step 4: Set up email capture (wizard step 2, Email form tab)

Still on wizard step 2, open the Email form tab. Leave Collect emails selected. Use one email field only , every extra field lowers completion rate, especially on mobile.

Set Submit button text to Send me the checklist. Under After they opt in, choose Show thank you page. Visitors stay on the same URL; the form hides and your thank-you text appears.

Do not pick Send to offer for this funnel , you promised a free checklist, not an immediate trial redirect.

Step 5: Write your thank-you message (wizard step 2, Thank you tab)

Click the Thank you page tab. Fill three blocks: headline, message, and delivery note. Turn off Resource / access link and Offer CTA for now , you deliver the PDF in email 1.

Use headline You are in! Message: Thanks for signing up. Check your inbox , your Email Tool Pick Checklist is on the way.

Open that email, save the PDF, and score the three tools you are considering. Delivery note: If you do not see it within five minutes, check spam or promotions.

Step 6: Set funnel URL and affiliate link (wizard step 3)

Click Next to reach Wizard step 3 of 5 , Your links. Name the funnel something you will recognize , for example Email Tool Checklist , ConvertKit.

Set the page address to email-tool-checklist so the share link becomes yoursite.com/email-tool-checklist. Leave status Active.

The Offer / checkout URL field is required even though visitors do not go there after opt-in. Paste your real ConvertKit affiliate trial URL , the same link you will use in email 3.

BlitzFunnel stores a destination for every active funnel; you reference it later in follow-up mail.

Add affiliate disclosure to the landing page footer: We may earn a commission if you sign up through our links, at no extra cost to you. One sentence is enough.

Step 7: Write the follow-up email sequence (wizard step 4)

On Wizard step 4 of 5 , Automatic follow-up emails, replace sample text so each message matches what you promised on the landing page. Do not send three emails because funnels "should" have three , each message should earn the next.

Map day 0, day 2, and day 5 before you write body copy. Email 1 delivers the checklist PDF with no pitch. Email 2 teaches one deliverability or selection tip. Email 3 is the only message with your ConvertKit affiliate link and disclosure line.

Email 1 , deliver (immediate)

Subject: Here is your Email Tool Pick Checklist. Body: link to the PDF, one sentence on how to use the scoring column, and a reminder to reply if the file will not open. No affiliate link yet.

Paste-ready body: Hi , thanks for grabbing the checklist. Here is your PDF: [link]. Start with the deliverability row , most WordPress sites skip SPF before they import a list.

Reply if the file will not open. Send yourself this on Gmail and Outlook before you enable delays.

Email 2 , help (day 2)

Subject: Test deliverability before you import your list. Body: one practical tip , verify SPF, DKIM, and DMARC on your sending domain before moving two thousand subscribers. Still no pitch.

Many site owners learn this the hard way after a provider migration.

Paste-ready body: Quick follow-up , send five test messages through each SMTP setup you are considering. Check inbox placement on Gmail and Outlook, not just "sent" confirmations in WordPress admin. Tomorrow's email shares the tool I actually run , today stays education-only.

Email 3 , connect (day 5)

Subject: The email tool I use on WordPress (and why). Body: two honest pros, one honest con, disclosure line, one plain ConvertKit affiliate link. This is the only hard sell in the sequence.

EmailTimingPurpose
Email 1ImmediatelyDeliver checklist PDF; one usage tip
Email 2Day 2Teach one related concept; no pitch
Email 3Day 5Recommend ConvertKit with disclosure and affiliate link

Email 3 is the only message that should feel like a recommendation. If emails 1 and 2 are pure value, readers tolerate a direct affiliate link. If email 1 pitches, unsubscribes spike before you reach the offer.

Step 8: Launch and test (wizard step 5)

Wizard step 5 of 5 , Ready to launch: review page type, URL, form fields, and email count. Click Launch funnel. WordPress publishes the landing page and activates the email sequence.

Do not share the link until you test. Open a private browser window, visit yoursite.com/email-tool-checklist, and confirm you see headline and button without the WordPress admin bar.

Submit a real email address you control. The form should disappear and the thank-you message should appear on the same page. Wait for email 1; click the PDF link.

On day 5 (or after temporarily lowering delay in settings), confirm email 3's affiliate link opens and your partner dashboard records the visit.

Testing checklist

Run every item in a private browser window before you share the funnel URL. Admin sessions sometimes bypass caching or security rules that break real visitor submissions.

Temporarily shorten email delays while testing so you receive all three messages in one afternoon. Restore day 0, day 2, and day 5 before launch. Document which test addresses you used so you do not confuse them with real leads in reporting.

  • Page loads correctly on your phone, not just your laptop
  • Headline matches what you will say in your post or ad
  • Form submits without an error message in a private window
  • Thank-you headline and inbox reminder appear immediately after submit
  • Email 1 arrives within a few minutes; PDF link works without login
  • Affiliate link in email 3 opens the correct trial page with your tracking intact
  • Footer disclosure is visible on the landing page

If the form works while you are logged in but fails in a private window, check email delivery settings or a security plugin blocking submissions. Fix that before you pay for ads or pin the URL on Pinterest.

Track what matters

Watch landing page visits, opt-in rate, email click rate on the offer message, and conversions in the ConvertKit affiliate dashboard. Fix the weakest step before buying more traffic.

Focused pages like ours often reach 10–11% opt-in on desktop when the blog post or pin promise matches the headline. Mobile is usually lower , sometimes half , so check phone numbers separately before you declare the funnel broken.

What you seeLikely place to fix
Traffic but few sign-upsHeadline, message match, or page length
Sign-ups but few email opensSubject line or deliverability (SPF/DKIM)
Opens but few affiliate clicksEmail 3 copy or offer relevance
Clicks but no commissionsVendor page fit or tracking setup

When to keep the funnel simple

If fewer than a hundred people visited and nobody opted in, the problem is usually traffic volume or headline mismatch , not missing upsells. Do not add a quiz, webinar, and tripwire until the basic checklist path converts.

Run your funnel for three weeks on organic traffic only. When opt-in holds above 8% on desktop, duplicate the funnel structure for a second affiliate offer. Same wizard steps, new PDF, new partner link.

Common build mistakes on first launch

The most frequent error is choosing Send to offer after opt-in when the landing page promised a free checklist. Visitors feel tricked and never open email one.

Another mistake is skipping the Offer URL field because you plan to link only in email three , BlitzFunnel requires a stored destination for every active funnel even when visitors stay on the thank-you screen.

Writers also paste affiliate links into email one before delivering the PDF. That pattern spikes unsubscribes before email three gets a chance. Reserve the recommendation for the final message after two value emails.

Test in a private browser window, not while logged into WordPress. Admin sessions sometimes bypass caching or security rules that break real visitor submissions.

Submit a Gmail address you control, confirm the thank-you message, and wait for email one before you share the URL on social.

Promoting your affiliate funnel after launch

A live funnel with no traffic teaches nothing. Link the checklist URL from two or three related blog posts , comparison articles, deliverability tutorials, plugin roundups.

Add the URL to your email signature with a UTM content tag so you know signature clicks convert.

Pinterest pins need the same headline as the landing page.

A pin promising "Email tool checklist for WordPress" must not send visitors to a page titled "Join my newsletter." Message mismatch shows up as traffic with zero opt-ins , fix the pin or the headline before you blame the form.

Paid ads come last. Run organic traffic for three weeks, fix the weakest metric in your tracking sheet, then scale the channel that already produces opt-ins.

Boosting a page below ten percent opt-in burns budget faster than it builds a list.

Updating the funnel when affiliate terms change

Affiliate programs change commission rates, cookie windows, and promotional rules without warning. When ConvertKit updates its partner terms, we edit email three and the stored Offer URL in BlitzFunnel , not the entire landing page.

Subscribers who already received email three keep the old link; new opt-ins get the updated copy.

Keep a changelog row in your funnel notes: date, what changed, which emails were edited. That habit prevents you from recommending a tool you no longer use because you forgot to rewrite email three after switching providers.

Frequently asked questions

How do I build a sales funnel for affiliate marketing?

Choose one offer, create a bridge or landing page in WordPress, optionally capture emails with a related lead magnet, send a short nurture sequence, link to your affiliate URL with disclosure, and test the full path on mobile before scaling traffic.

How long does it take to build an affiliate funnel in WordPress?

A simple bridge page can go live in an afternoon. A funnel with checklist download and three emails typically takes one to two days including writing, PDF setup, and testing.

Do I need a landing page for affiliate marketing?

Not always, but a bridge or landing page helps with cold traffic, ad compliance, and pre-selling before the vendor's sales page. Email capture adds long-term value when visitors are not ready to click today.

Why does BlitzFunnel require an Offer URL if I am not selling immediately?

Every active funnel stores a destination URL. For lead-magnet affiliate funnels, visitors stay on the thank-you screen after opt-in. You use that stored URL in email 3 when subscribers are ready for the recommendation.

What opt-in rate should I expect?

Focused landing pages with one offer and email-only forms often reach 10–11% on desktop when traffic matches the headline. Mobile is usually lower. Below that range after a hundred visits, fix headline or message match before adding complexity.
